The United States: Paragon of Postmodernism or Prematurely Labeled? The staunch demand for women’s suffrage, the push for equality in the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War... Such tumultuous events characterized the 1960s, the turbulent era which irrevocably shaped the history and foundation of the United States. The movements for this time were heavily influenced by the writings and ideas expounded upon by earlier Americans. Many authors, during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920’s especially, greatly impacted later authors. Langston Hughes was one such author that was heavily influenced by the mindset during the Harlem Renaissance and the issues people of color faced pre-Civil Rights movement. In these places, people of color often threw off the fetters of social oppression for a while and masked their discontent und er a wave of music. However, many still experienced an underlying anger and disillusionment with American society—a society that consistently marginalized them. The movement largely featured people of color writers, giving them a voice and a racial identity. Such writings often critiqued the circumstances of the â€Å"black† American, or presented social criticism. The movement was rooted in the idea of social change, and laid the foundation for the Civil Rights movement that would come later in the 1960s as well as â€Å"set the foundations for all later African American literature,† according to Allen Dunn and George Hutchinson in Soundings: An Interdisciplinary Journal (446). Despite writing â€Å"Harlem† in 1951 Hughes was still heavily influenced by the earlier authors and the culture of jazz. His writings compound earlier issues with the newer ones today, continuing issues for people of color that have never been resolved. No matter which country you would look into whether it’s from wealthier to those less wealthy countries through the eyes of economics, there are bound to be types of inequity within their borders. Inequity is a very crucial problem in the United States, you would think that our economy here in the states is booming, and the citizens are living life easy or without worry. Life is the United States isn’t as it seems, in fact, Inequity is in fact a big problem even in the United States. Over the years, there has been millions of Americans that were considered to be in poor or in poverty line that are not able to provide for themselves and their families. It is generally considered unfair if the rich have a disproportionally larger portion of a country s income compared those not so rich in their populat ion. This means in an obvious note, that income spread throughout the United States is â€Å"unfair† in that the rich will get richer, and the poor will stay poor or will have little to no income to spend for basic goods and services. For the 60% of the population in the middle class, it grew a bit under 40% and for the 20% of the population at the lowest end of the income distribution, it grew roughly 18%. Before, the coming of Ford, the first auto companies were very tiny oper ations, however, this changed as Ford invented the methods of mass production, along with the advanced assembly line techniques, including vast River Rouge complex, aspects which turned around the scale and scope of auto production in Michigan (McGinnis, 2005). Dodge, on the other hand, set up an enormous Main automobile Plant just close to that of Ford. All these grand automobile plants served to turn Michigan into an American automobile hub. The accessibility of Detroit also brought in enough workers who provided reliable labor for the labor-hungry automobile industry.
